House Five is on Kabula Hill, a beautiful part of Blantyre, which overlooks Mbayani and has an absolutely stunning view. The property is very central yet you do not feel as if you were in the heart of a bustling town. The beautiful gardens and trees coupled with a large swimming pool, offer a feeling of total tranquility and relaxation. The main house has a grand entrance leading to a beautiful dining/sitting room with large windows looking out over the mountains and across to Nyambadwe. It is, therefore, no surprise that this property once housed the American Consulate.
Facilities and Activities
There nine rooms, three of which are in the main house. These are large and spacious rooms, some with king size beds, some with three quarter sized beds and all rooms are en-suite with large and airy showers. The rooms are all equipped with fans, a safe, a cupboard, a kettle and tea and coffee, wireless internet and television.
What used to be the garage is now another room with its own entrance. It has a large bathroom and is the only one of our rooms with a free standing bath tub and shower.
Nestled in the garden, are two long stay cottages equipped with all the facilities mentioned above including a kitchenette.
There are a further three cottages on the property, two of which face the pool. They too are equipped with television, wireless internet, a kettle, a safe and cupboards and are all, obviously, en suite.
Hosue 5 operates as a bed and breakfast but light snacks are available on request.

Owner profile
House Five belongs to my mother Flavia Capannesi and I. We own the Hostaria Italian Restaurant, which has been operating for twenty years. Our family has been in Malawi for five generations. My great grandfather came here in 1906 and built his home in Thyolo, which was known as House Five hence our choice of the name. This was a house where four generations of our family grew up and where amazing parties took place and therefore represents beautiful memories for us and those who visited.
