Once the lakeside retreat of the legendary Norman Carr,who pioneered walking safaris in the Luangwa valley, this is a little piece of paradise! The emphasis is on quiet relaxation, good food and nothing that may be a vexation to the spirit. Meals are taken on our open beachside deck and the ambiance for evening meal is created with warm candle light. The luxury suites boast king-size 4 poster beds with huge mosquito nets, white percale linen, open air showers and an ante room for quiet contemplation while watching the sun rise over the lake. We pride ourselves on the fact that our decor is totally Malawian.
The abundant bird life wakes you every morning,the cries of the fish eagles are heard all day and the giant eagle owls guard the night.
Protected from the south wind and in a calm and gentle bay,its a home away form home.
Facilities and Activities
We have a Jacuzzi on the deck for guests to use whenever they feel the need to cool off. The lounge is available for guests to read or escape the other guests! We don't encourage TV, but on big match days we all are glued to it.
We do trips to surrounding areas,like Monkey Bay for sundowners in the harbour and Club Mac for golf. We also take our guests to Otter point and Cape Mclear should they wish to go. Tours through the village are arranged for those who are interested, these are not at all staged and the Chief of the village escorts them to answers any questions the guests might have.
We border the National Park and take walks up into the hills. The view over the lake from the top is quite spectacular.
Our dive boat goes out daily to different dive sites for snorkelling or just gentle cruises. Sundowner cruises and Hippo spotting are a definite favourite. We also have paddle skis, wind surfers and snorkelling gear.

Owner profile
Taffy and Jenny gave up the rat race in South Africa and came to Malawi with the intention of restoring an old boat in Monkey Bay harbour.Jenny is an electrical technician by trade who took to selling real estate while Taffy gave up manufacturing after 33 years in his own company.Their intention was not to own a lodge at all, but be out on the lake watching the sunsets,red wine in hand!
Our aim is to give our guest the best Malawian experience, without feeling like tourists.
